welcome to the river church of asheville
We almost gave up on church. No really. We're a group of people who were tired of playing at church. We'd grown weary of "church as usual". We weren't looking for a new program, model or style. We were looking for "different" and "fresh"
We're asking the same questions as you. searching for the same answers; struggling with the same issues. We live in the same community and deal with the same problems. We're concerned about our futures and our finances, our families and our friends...the stuff of everyday life.
So, before you write church off completely, give The River a chance to change your mind.
We're a church willing to meet you right where you are.
The River is a church for people who don't have their lives all together.
It's a church for people who have more questions than answers.
It's a church for people who want to have close spiritual friendships but maybe aren't ready yet to trust someone.

God's Word
The Bible is God's inspired word to us without any mixture of error. It provides us with a standard for living out the relationship God desires us to have with him, with each other and with all people.
Multiplication
God loves people and it's His desire for us to have a ministry of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with others that we might take part in multiplying God's family.
Cultural Relevance
We believe in order to win people to Christ, we must be relevant. This affects our overall atmosphere, our dress, worship style, language, messages, teaching and ministry.
Worship
We believe we are to love God with all our heart. We worship God with music, singing, giving, praying, and daily living.
Empowerment
We believe every Believer is a minister, so it's our desire to empower people to minister by serving first through the local church and secondly through and in the local community.
People are important
Life is a long and sometimes wierd journey. Along the way we each make dumb choices. We believe that everyone who is willing to try the God thing again, deserves another chance.

how we worship
Worship in the Word
We teach the Bible and talk a lot about Jesus. We believe that each person is starving for the greatness of Jesus, whether they acknowledge it or not, and thus we seek to communicate His clear message of hope and salvation every Sunday. The gospel is not only what the unbeliever needs for salvation but it is also what the believer needs for daily living.
Worship in Prayer
We believe that without Jesus we can literally do nothing. So as we gather we come to plead with Him to visit with us and show us Himself through His Word. A portion of our family meets at 10:00 Sunday mornings to pray for our church, our area, and our time together that morning in worship.
Worship in Music
With music, our goal is to worship Jesus whole-heartedly and authentically. The Bible describes worship in many ways - in silence and with noise, standing, sitting, kneeling, and even falling on your face. As we sing we respond to who Jesus is and what He has done for us on the cross.

one way 2 play
One Way 2 Play is another way that The River Church reaches out to the disadvantaged. We want every child to have the oportunity to participate in recreational activities.
